World's largest chair renovated with Felbermayr lifting technology

“With an object of this size, it's about reaching high and preparing every step properly,” notes Christopher Vierthaler, sales representative at Felbermayr. For the renovation, Felbermayr provided a 90-ton mobile crane, two F-43 GTKX and an F-26 GTKX articulated platform with a working height of 43 and 26 meters, respectively. The devices made it possible to precisely position the renewed seat base and safely reach all working areas at high altitude.
World record with high requirements
The red chair in St. Florian is 30 meters high and is the largest chair in the world registered in the Guinness Book of Records. The oversized piece of furniture has now become an integral part of the scenery on the A1 and has reserved its very own, unmistakable space at the location since its completion in 2009. In addition to increased safety measures, the dimensions of the structure also require maximum precision when lifting the seat cross. “Especially with a project like this, there is no room for improvisation. Experience, high-performance technology and smooth processes count here,” explains Vierthaler.
Cross-departmental cooperation as a success factor
The Wels and Linz stage departments and the Linz crane department were involved in the project, supplemented by Felbermayr specialists from planning and workshop. “Our colleagues from the various departments made an exceptional contribution to the secure implementation of this project in XXXL format. Such assignments show how important cooperation is behind the scenes,” says Vierthaler.
Precision despite tight spaces
The red chair left little room for manoeuvring. In order for the crane and platforms to work in parallel, a precisely timed installation was necessary. Crane parking space, stage positions and material movements had to be coordinated extremely precisely. “Thanks to precise deployment planning and ongoing coordination on site with colleagues, we were able to carry out the work efficiently and without interruptions,” explains Vierthaler and continues: “When space is scarce, an overview is required, both on the ground and at a height of 30 meters. ”
A symbolic project
The renovation of the largest chair in the world combines technical precision with an exceptional project environment. The use of Felbermayr's transport and lifting technology is an example of how expertise, modern technology and teamwork prove effective even in exceptional tasks. “It is not common to work on a world record object. It's all the better when everything ends up sitting right where it belongs,” summarizes Vierthaler.
